| the family trip to vegas...
i need to preface this post with the fact that my family has never been to vegas before, and really this was only my second time after this.
so i knew it was going to be an interesting time, esp since my adorable mom did some research and asked my family if we wanted to go to this "cute little dance thing called Pure". no mom, we definitely do NOT want to go to pure as a family. dont let the name deceive you. despite me fearing for my moms saftey, we ended up having a great time. plus, its a chan vacation with buffets - you cant really go wrong with that.
cha ching! i won a dollar!

sister, mom, me waiting for our foods.

lots of eating.

my mom also thought that vegas was an amusement park (which it sorta is) so she asked the conceirge for a "list of all the shows around the strip." for those of you vegas veterans, you know that this includes the bellagio water show, venetian singers and gondolas, treasure island pirate show. we stayed at the bellagio, so my mom thinks that every hotel is of the same calibur. (not quite). she gets overly excited about the circus circus magic show. "nooo. i dont think circus circus will be that fun...." "please?? weve never been here before, maybe itll be cool". thus, the birth of this photo:
besdies the hotel being kinda old and creepy, the people sitting on the beachers squished in dim lighting with an old school magic stage was reminiscent of an "are you afriad of the dark" episode. we stayed for a grand total of 2 minutes and my mom was like.. "hmmm.. okay i think im done"
some random chan sister pic action:

steph and i think its pretty entertaining to take pictures with the chippendales poster. i guess we thought it was pretty funny - until a real chippendales guy (half naked) comes out and sees us prancing and starts throwing beads at us! at the exact same time we both scream "AHHHHH!!" followed by "EWWWWWW!!" followed by "WE DONT WANT THEM!!!" followed by sprinting out of the place and leaving the beads on the floor. we got a good laugh out of it later.

until next time, and happy easter!

i dont know when it happened, but somewhere in the middle of college, my sister became my best friend. once i graduated (almost 2 years ago), we were inseparable. since i moved back home, we've been doing weekly "sister dates" where we either discover (sometimes, by getting lost) the city, eat at new restaurants, visit museums, and other fun things. i came to the sad realization today that we only have a couple more months to do this before she goes to college! although im not sure where she will be going yet, i do know that she probably wont be living at home, which sent me into a flury of thoughts:
who am i going to make emergency nacho and boba runs with? compete to make the ugliest face in the mirror? break out in random tribal dance and freak out mom and dad?

also. one thing i really admire about my sister is that she is a great writer. in fact, she wrote this poem last summer that easily became one of my favorites. it looks lengthy, but its such a great read! her normal stuff is darker :)
unrequited
within a darkened, streched corridor of an old victorian house - i took up just three inches on the floor and spoke the least that life allowed.
this one, dim single hallway oil paintings adorn the walls - no light, no sun, no single ray on any place within did it fall.
i am a lost hermit within a beige shell, - two white claws which i unfold - black eyes usually shut were opened, compelled the day i saw glory to behold,
long and lean was this new foreigner; a man, balled up, and crouched in a corner -
he sat there, wrapped up, sad and tight as i scuttled, trying to see his face - within his presence i knew i was not right, but his brooding passion i had to embrace.
his eyes were brown and brown and brown, my mind and spirit beat a rhythm - this is love, i thought, he who ive found because there was no other just like him.
so i wave my claws around and fast for all the world to see - except he, whose eyes darted right on past and i realized, why should he notice me?
i was but a hermit and as hard as i tried, i could not have this creature surely sent from the skies.
but my tiny heart still beat like storms as i saw him sad, but stay - two nubbins on his back were formed and a halo to ornament his cherub face.
the days progressed, but he still crouched, the bones on his back did grow - 'till ivory feathers did i see sprout and the blood in his veins began to flow.
most precious creature, my small, fading soul is true - one day he stood with every perfect feature floated up, out the ceiling, towards something new.
so i died (knowing life must be something more) because he carried my heart away as he soared.

my good friend laurina just had her first art show not too long ago. im so proud of her! despite a lot of controversy surrounding her show, she pressed on and had a great turnout! here is a completely candid pic she captured of me in hawaii, while i was praying for my friend getting married:
edit: heres the original, since the resolution on the other one was so bad - she also did my makeup that day! a very talented lady :)
